Gluten Free

Some people need to avoid gluten due to Celiac Disease, an auto immune disorder. Other people may have a gluten intolerance or an allergy to wheat. 

If you have celiac disease look for properly labelled products with gluten free verification.

What grains are allowed on a gluten free diet?

• Amaranth
• Arrowroot
• Buckwheat
• Corn — cornmeal, grits and polenta labeled gluten-free
• Gluten-free flours — rice, soy, corn, potato and bean flours
• Millet
• Oats – in some cases. Look for certified gluten free brands.
• Quinoa
• Rice, including wild rice
• Sorghum
• Tapioca (cassava root)
• Teff

Grains that contain gluten:

• Wheat
• Barley
• Rye
• Triticale — a cross between wheat and rye
• Oats, in some cases they are cross contaminated.
• Kamut
• Spelt
