The challenges our planet faces today are an important reminder of how critical it is to make wise decisions that support the health and well-being of ourselves, our local communities, and planet Earth. From the food and supplements we put in our bodies, to the products we put on our skin and into the environment, our choices have a direct impact on the world around us.

Being a Vancouver Island-born and raised resident, I value my local farms and markets, as well as companies that prioritize sustainability. As a naturopathic doctor, knowing where supplements come from – and where and how the ingredients are grown – is especially important to me. I often recommend wholefood supplements to my patients that provide the body with the foundation it needs to maintain health and prevent illness. Taking a wholefood supplement from real food means getting vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that can be properly assimilated and absorbed in the body so they can actually do what they are touted to do.

Not only are supplements from Whole Earth & Sea just that, but the brand also embodies sustainability, supports local, and promotes preventative health. Close to 1,000 acres of certified organic farmland in the heart of the Okanagan, British Columbia, is dedicated to growing the dozens of fresh, organic, high-quality ingredients used in these supplements. So, you really are getting all the goodness of food-based vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients right from your own backyard!

Sustainable practices are used throughout all steps of farming, beginning with carefully selected, non-hybrid, non-GMO seeds planted in fertile alluvial soil and enriched with chemical- and pesticide-free compost and nitrogen-rich sea plants. Hand-picking gives control over the harvest and ensures that only healthy, mature plants with the highest ratios of active ingredients are used in the final products. Ingredients are processed in local facilities soon after their harvest to preserve their full nutritional and therapeutic profiles, all while supporting local workers and eliminating the carbon footprint of lengthy transport. Finished products undergo ISURA® certification as an added guarantee that they are free of over 800 contaminants, are non-GMO, and are safe, pure, and potent.

Whole Earth & Sea prioritizes product quality and the sustainability of the environment’s precious resources. By monitoring their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, they have reduced their footprint by 33% and are officially carbon-neutral. Through various initiatives in 2021, they have achieved an 87% diversion rate from landfills. However, the real measure of success is making a positive impact on the lives of people and the planet. Showing commitment to the health and well-being of Canadian consumers, farmers, and communities by producing effective, high-quality products in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way will create a positive ripple effect for years to come.
